Mr. Joseph Staten, Sr., 81, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Concord, NC.
Mr. Staten was born on November 2, 1942 to the late Bennie and Jannie Boyd Staten. At an early age he joined First Baptist Church, Wylliesburg, VA. He received his early education in the Mecklenburg County School system. In 1959, he met and married his love, the late Bessie Ann Staten, and to that union four children were born. In 1966 he relocated his entire family to Washington, D.C., where he remained for over 50 years until he moved back to his home state of Virginia in 2018. A hard worker and entrepreneur, Mr. Staten held numerous jobs throughout his lifetime. Trucking was his love; he had over 60 years of experience as a professional tractor-trailer truck driver. He enjoyed watching sports of any kind and watching westerns. He loved spending time with his family and friends, but his pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Staten was a generous and humble man who loved his family, and would lend anyone a helping hand.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Bennie Staten and a sister, Nannie M. Watson.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory three sons, Joseph Staten, Jr. (Cynthia) of Chase City, VA, Henry L. Staten, Sr. (Byrd) of Concord, NC and Joseph A. Hurt of Richmond, VA; one daughter, Angie Staten-White (Pernell) of Concord, NC; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Oliver of Chase City, VA; one brother, Bennie H. Staten (Thelma) of Drakes Branch, VA; a special nephew, Isaac (Irvin) Davis, Jr.; his loving, long-time devoted partner, Delores Fairfax of Washington, DC, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Staten, Sr. will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 30, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Wylliesburg, VA with Rev. Opie Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Mitchell Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
