Mr. Joseph Robert Wilkins, Jr., 85, of Dewitt, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Virginia. Mr. Wilkins was born in Lawrenceville, VA on February 26, 1933 to the late Joseph Robert Wilkins, Sr., and Mamie Ethel Jackson. He attended the schools of Brunswick County, VA and furthered his education at St. Paul Polytechnic and Institute in Lawrenceville, VA. Upon completion of high school, he entered the United States Air Force where he served during both the Korean and Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force after 23 years of service, Joseph became a civil servant where he worked for twenty-four years in the immediate office of the Secretary of the Department of the Interior. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his son, Tony Andre’ Wilkins; one grandson, Anthony Lagarian Wilkins, and his siblings, John Wesley, James Edward, Henry Walker, Lucy Mae Walker-Spraggins, Nancy Walker, Hilda Walker-Johnson, Rosalie Walker-Lewis, Melvin Henderson, Joseph Henderson, Bernard Henderson, and Veronica James. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Carolyn Fields-Wilkins, of Dewitt, VA; two daughters, Berethia Wilkins of Atlanta, GA and Tamara Starr of Rex, GA; one son, Terry D. Wilkins of Smyrna, GA; two step-daughters, Shameka C. Venable of Woodbridge, VA and Lasa’nae S. Chin, of Dewitt, VA; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; six siblings, William Wilkins (Edna), Mary Alice Walker-Jiggitts (Eugene), Elise Taylor, Yvonne James, Margaret James, and Russell James; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Wilkins and Anna Hargrove (Charles); three brothers-in-law, Odell Fields, Benjamin Fields (Eileen), and Elmore Fields (Anna), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service for Mr. Joseph Robert Wilkins, Jr. will be conducted 11:30 A. M. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Andy Hargrove officiating. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
