Joseph Edward Thomas

Deacon Joseph Edward Thomas, 94, of Chase City, VA passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, VA.

Mr. Thomas was born in Vauxhall, New Jersey July 4, 1928 to the late Joseph III and Marie Vanwinkle Thomas. He attended the schools of Union County, NJ and was formerly employed by Ashland Chemical. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA where he served in the capacities of Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Usher. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and planting a garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Thomas.

To cherish his memories, he leaves his wife, Mildred Strother Thomas of Chase City, VA; a son, Karl Thomas (Caroline) of New Jersey, step-son, Ernie Strother (Audrey) of Smyrna, DE, a step-daughter, Diane Rainey of Linden, NJ; four step-grandchildren, two brothers, Lawrence Thomas of Cranford, NJ and Kenneth Thomas of Bloomington, IN; two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, one devoted Marshall Terry (Hilda) and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA with Rev. William Moore III conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will begin Friday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM.
