Joseph Chalmers Roberts

Deacon Joseph Chalmers Roberts, 78, of South Boston, VA entered eternal rest Friday, June 10, 2011 at Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC. Deacon Roberts was born in Mecklenburg County, VA January 21, 1933 to the late Theodore and Addie Singleton Roberts. He attended Mary Bethune High School, Halifax, VA and was a member of Jeter Chapel Baptist Church, South Boston, VA.  He was a veteran of U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Post 99, South Boston, VA. Mr. Roberts was a retiree of J.P Steven Textile Corporation. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Ida F. Roberts of South Boston, VA; six children, Gloria Jones (Stevie) of Sutherlin, VA, Jackie Canada (Mark) and Miranda Roberts, and Rev. Raymond Roberts  (Brenda) all of South Boston, VA, Wayne Roberts (Florie) of Halifax, VA and Gregory Roberts (Nina) of Roxboro, NC; nine grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nannie Joseph and Maude Bell; eight brothers-in-law, Robert Thaxton, Joseph Thaxton, Johnny Thaxton, Leroy Thaxton, David Thaxton, Rufus Thaxton, William Thaxton and Herman Thaxton and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Deacon Joseph Chalmers Roberts will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Jeter Chapel Baptist Church, South Boston, VA with Rev.  Dwight Wilkerson, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing for Deacon Roberts will Thursday, June 16, from 4 until 7 P.M. at Jeter Chapel Baptist Church with the family receiving friends from 6 until 7 P.M. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
