John Jr. Martin

Mr. John Martin Jr., 82 of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA. Mr. Martin was born in North Carolina May 27, 1929 to the late John Martin Sr. and Marie White Martin. He was first married to the late Geraldine Coates Martin and later married Madeline Doggett Martin. He was a member of Greater Union Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. In addition to his parent Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a son, Sylvester Martin; one grandchild, Tiesha Martin; two brothers, William Martin, Sr. and James Martin. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Madeline D. Martin of Chase City, VA;  two  daughters, Brenda G. Coleman of Clarksville, VA and Wanda D. Martin of Scott Air Force Base, IL; two sons, David L. Martin of East Orange NJ and John M. Martin of Chase City, VA; step-daughter, Pamela D. Washington of Mechanicsville, VA; three step-sons, Rayford W. Doggett, Jr. and Stacye G. Doggett both of Chesterfield, VA and Mark A. Doggett of Richmond, VA; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Bessie Hector, Rebecca Bacon and Isabelle Bacon all of Chase City, VA and Annie Russell of Plainfield, NJ; one aunt, Susie White of Chase City, VA; six brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. John Martin Jr. will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Greater Union Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Linda Goode, officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Viewing for Mr. Martin will be from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
