John Henry Bacon

Mr. John Henry Bacon, 92, of Fort Mitchell, VA entered eternal rest on May 24, 2013 at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, VA.   Mr. Bacon was born April 4, 1921 in Fort Mitchell, Virginia to the late John and Mary Gayles Bacon. He received his education in the Charlotte County School System and was a member of Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church. Mr. Bacon served in the U. S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a veteran of World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.  Upon completing his military service, he returned to Fort Mitchell, VA to work in the logging business, later becoming a tobacco farmer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Virginia Hayes Bacon; two brothers, Edward Bacon and Austin Bacon and a sister, Pauline Bacon Winn. Cherishing his memories are one son, Albert Hayes (Shirley); two daughters, Gwendolyn Bacon and Vergie Bacon; two granddaughters, Vonda Hayes Smith (Wilfred) and Alesia Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Smith and Krista Smith; one great-great-granddaughter, Briya Smith; one sister, Inez Bacon; a devoted friend, Ms. Earlean Woodson; two special care-givers, Monica Hurt and Bobie Brown and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. John Henry Bacon will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. Dr. James E. Scott delivering the eulogy. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.  Public viewing for family and friends Wednesday, from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.
