Joan Y. Overby

Mrs. Joan Yvonne Winfield Overby, 88, of Clarksville, VA departed this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Magnolia Gardens in Warrenton, NC. Mrs. Overby was born in Jersey City, NJ on September 24, 1930 to the late Alexander and Rosa Jeffress Winfield, and was raised by Jerry and Hattie Burrell. She was a graduate of West End High School, and a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA. Mrs. Overby was previously employed by IBM, Veteran Administration Medical Center, Montrose, NY Hospital and as a private caregiver. Upon retiring, she relocated back to Clarksville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Overby was preceded in death by her husband, James Elijah Overby, Sr.; one daughter, Charlye Overby; one son, Thomas Overby, and one granddaughter, Ebony Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memory seven daughters, Betty Overby of Oxford NC, Barbara Winston of Franklinton NC, Jerry Carter (James) of Clarksville, Enolia Gibbs (Larry) of South Boston, Doris Overby and Louisa Wilson (Ronald) all of Chase City, and Audrey Overby of Webster NY; three sons, James Overby, Jr. (Carol) of Peekskill NY, Edward Overby (Wendy) of Washington DC, and Darryl Overby of Yonkers, NY, 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services for will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 1, 2019 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Michael Jackson, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 6 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
