Mr. Jessie Wilbur Gayles, 82, of Red Oak, Virginia entered eternal rest Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Gayles was born in Charlotte County, VA January 20, 1927 to the late Charlie and Kate Wilson Gayles. Mr. Gayles attended Salem School in Red Oak. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church where he was a member of the male chorus. He also served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Gayles was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Gayles, his second wife, Maude Tillery Gayles; one son, Wilbur Gayles; five sisters, Pearl, Irene, Thelma, Geneva, Magaline and one brother, Rev. Floyd Gayles. Mr. Gayles is survived by seven children, Maxine Watson of Japan, Margaretta Wilson, Larry Gayles, and Doreen Tuck (Robert) of Roxboro, NC, Donald Gayles of Ruffin, NC and Ricky Gayles (Alice) of Durham, NC; five step-children, Michael, Calvin, Wayne, Marty and Sharon; 13 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Gayles of New Jersey; two sisters Clara Wells and Henrietta Mosley both of Washington, D.C. and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Jessie Wilbur Gayles will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Prophet Harry L. Williams, Officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St. Chase City, VA.
