Mr. Jesse Oliver, 70, of Newark, NJ and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ. Mr. Oliver was born in Chase City, VA on January 22, 1950 to the late John L. and Beatrice B. Oliver. At the age of 10, he was baptized and became a member of Silone Baptist Church. After high school, he relocated to New Jersey, and obtained employment at Brenner Desk & Design Incorporated where he was employed for 25 years. After retirement, he began his second career with Thornton Delivery Service; he worked until 2006. Mr. Oliver married Stephanie Davis in 1989. He loved spending time with family and friends in New Jersey, Virginia and North Carolina. He leaves to cherish his loving memory two sons, Jesse Oliver, Jr. (Nicole) of Charlotte, NC and Eric Mckoy (Latasha) of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Elijah Oliver, Shadora and Katrina Mckoy; two brothers, Robert Oliver (Diana) of Chesapeake, VA and Curtis Goode (Ernita) of Fayetteville, NC; one sister, Cora Thornton of Hillside, NJ; three nieces, Audrey Thornton of Hillside, NJ, Tammy Wilson (Sundiata), and Nicole Oliver of Chesapeake, VA; five nephews, Robert Ransom of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Curtis T. Goode (April) of Las Vegas, NV, Darrell Bacon (LaDonna) of Charlotte, NC, Jarrell Goode (Jeralyn) of Beaumont, TX, and Stephen L. Oliver of Suffolk, VA; three special friends, Deloris Zellner, Harrison Goode and Charlie Watkins, along with a host of other loving relatives, caring friends and neighbors. A graveside service for Mr. Jesse Oliver will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA with Rev. Melvin J. Palmer officiating. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Due to Covid-19, a mask will be required for all viewings and services, and we ask that you practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
