Jerry Hamilton Johnson, Sr.

Mr. Jerry Hamilton Johnson, Sr. died Monday, January 16, 2023 in South Boston, VA.

He was born 23rd of November 1938 in the home of his grandmother, Maggie Cratch Staton, in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The son of J.B. Hamiliton and Florence M. Staton Johnson. He grew up in Tarboro, NC, upon graduation from high school in 1957 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant, and retired on 2 February 1978. While going to stenographer school at the USN Training Center, Bainbridge, MD he met and married his wife Beverly on the 12th of Dec. 1958. Upon retirement in 1978, he and his family moved to his current home in Skipwith, VA. He was a member of American Legion Post 45, VFW Post 8163, Kinderton Country Club and Buggs Island Fish and Wildlife Club. He loved playing golf and working with the Veterans, especially with the Veterans Park for our handicapped Veterans.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Maylon E. Johnson; sons, Jerry H. Johnson, Jr. and Christopher T. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly Ann Dixon Johnson, three children, Sabrina L. Newton of Grey Court, SC, Athena R. (Tina) Jimmerson of Clarksville, VA and Eric Q. and wife, Juanita Johnson of Skipwith, VA ; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life service conducted at the VFW Post 8163 in Clarksville at 1:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2023. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the VFW Oasis Club.
