James Skipwith

Mr. James Skipwith, 89, of Baskerville, VA entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, VA.

Mr. Skipwith was born in Mecklenburg County on January 5, 1935 to the late Moses and Rachel Nelson Skipwith. He received his education in the Mecklenburg County School System, and at an early age joined St. Matthew Baptist Church. Mr. Skipwith was a former employee of Spaulding Lumber Company and Lawson Jones Construction with over 25 dedicated years of service.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Skipwith was preceded in death by his wife, Elanita Brounson Hilliard Skipwith; step-daughter, Patricia Harris; sister, Edna Townes; and four brothers, Clarence, William, Graham and Jerry Skipwith.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory three sons, James B. Skipwith of Hampton, VA, Steven Skipwith of Chase City, VA and Gerald Skipwith (Joyce) of Clarksville, VA; three step-daughters, Darlene Hilliard of the home; Odene Smith of Clarksville, VA and Madeline Spencer of Henderson, NC; a host of grandchildren to include a dedicated grandson, James Hilliard (Simone) of Baskerville, VA; two sisters, Alice Revis (Jeffress) and Mozelle Royster (Pete) of Finchley, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A memorial service for Mr. James Skipwith will be held at a later date.
