Mr. James Samuel Howerton (“Sammy”), 91, of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest Monday, May 4, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Howerton was born in Mecklenburg County, February 2, 1929 to the late Alexander and Bessie Royster Howerton. He attended Saint Mark School in Buffalo Junction, VA, and was a 1951 graduate of West End High School, Clarksville, VA. He was a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church. Mr. Howerton was the retired owner of Howerton Brothers Car Spa, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, Mr. Howerton was preceded in death by a son, James Conway Howerton, and three brothers, Willie “Lynn”, Tommie “Tit” and William “Roy” Howerton. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Mary Ann Williams Howerton of Buffalo Junction, VA; one daughter, Janice M. Williams of Union, NJ; one granddaughter, Tabetha Simmons Higgins; six great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Rebecca Williams, Tina Williams, Bernice Thompson, and Marian Howerton, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Due to the mandates from Governor Ralph Northam, private funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the chapel of C.H. Harris Funeral Home with burial following in Saint Mark Baptist Church Cemetery, Buffalo Junction, VA. Public viewing was held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
