James Edward Ward, Sr.

Mr. James Edward Ward, Sr., 73, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Brookneal, VA.

Mr. Ward was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on August 7, 1949 to the late JD Ward and Lucille Puryear Roberts. He received his formal education in the public schools of Charlotte County, VA. Mr. Ward joined First Baptist Church of Wylliesburg, VA and later joined Salem Baptist Church in Red Oak, where he served as a trustee. Before his retirement, Mr. Ward worked as a logger, farmer and trucker. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting a huge community garden, and his salad patch. He also enjoyed working on small engines and cars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Earnest Roberts; brother, Alfred Leon Ward, Sr.; sister, Phyllis Ann Ward, and his niece, Kristina Marie Ward.

He leaves to cherish loving memories his children, Lena McKeithan (William) of Henrico, VA, Paula Cooper of Gladys, VA, Alice Ward of Fairfax, VA, James Ward, Jr. (Angela) of Brookneal, VA, Earnest Ward of Monticello, FL, and Michael Ward of Charlotte Court House, VA; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; devoted friend, Anthony Jones, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. James Edward Ward, Sr. will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Earnest Goode, officiating. Interment will be private. Public viewing will begin on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M.
