James Cornell Mayo

Mr. James Cornell Mayo, 73, of Creedmoor, NC and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on December 18, 2022.

Mr. Mayo was born in Chase City, VA on July 25, 1949 to the late Matthew Mayo and Elva Watts Mayo. He was a member of Silone Baptist Church in Chase City, VA. Mr. Mayo attended West End High School in Skipwith, VA, and completed two years at Southside Virginia Community College. He worked several city jobs among other occupations before retiring. Mr. Mayo was a US Marine Corps veteran, having served two tours including the Vietnam War. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling all over the country.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew Nelson Mayo and Larry Dean Mayo, and one sister, Evelyn Christine Mayo Bragg.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, his daughter, Barbrina Mayo-Faulcon of Creedmoor, NC; son, James C. Mayo, II of Rougemont, NC; two grandchildren, Juaniece C. Mayo of Creedmoor, NC and Yara J. Mayo of Clarksville, VA; three sisters, Doris A. Mayo of Chase City, VA, Marilynn M. Walker of South Hill, VA and Carolyn M. Chapman of Spring Lake, NC; one brother, Robert L. Watts (Josephine) of Chase City, VA; two aunts, Mary Blanche Smith of Skipwith, VA and Lillian Brannan of Yonkers, NY, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. James Cornell Mayo will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2022 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Andy Hargrove, officiating. Interment with honors will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
