James Aaron Carter, Jr.

Mr. James Aaron Carter, Jr., 90, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Carter was born in Yonkers, NY on April 20, 1934 to the late James Aaron Carter, Sr. and Maude Makley Carter. He attended the public schools of Yonkers, NY, and was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Clarksville. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the United States Army. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, watching football, and working out at the YMCA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Dorothy, Frances, Evelyn, Anna Mae and Louise; and a brother, Roland.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Jerry Overby Carter of Clarksville, VA; four sons, James Carter (Deb) of Atlanta, GA, Sean Carter (Elania) of Yonkers, NY, Patrick Overby (Nermin) of Franklinton, NC and Micah Overby (Onja) of White Plains, NY; two daughters, Jemylah Carter of Clarksville, VA and Jenai Carter of Raleigh, NC; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. James Aaron Carter, Jr. will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 22, 2024 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Michael D. Jackson, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
