Mrs. Irene Smith Tucker, 87, of Richmond, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Memorial Regional Medical Center, Mechanicsville, VA.


Mrs. Tucker was born on August 31, 1937 in Charlotte County, VA to the late Richard and Ruth Keene Smith, sharing her birth with twin sister, Eva. She attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County where she met and married the late William Edward Tucker and seven children were born of this union: Linda, William, Jr., Brenda, Calvin, Diane, Irene Regina, and Darlene. The couple moved to Richmond where most of her younger years were spent as a stay-at-home mom. She would later gain employment at Philip Morris. Mrs. Tucker was a member of First African Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia under the leadership of Dr. Rodney D. Waller. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, sewing and planting flowers. Irene also enjoyed the companionship of her sisters on their annual sister trips.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five children, William Jr., Brenda (Kitten) Tucker, Diane (Nookie) Tucker, Calvin Tucker and Darlene Williams; three sisters, Madeline Smith, Helen Haskins and Eva Gayles; and son-in-law, Jay P. Teele.


She leaves behind two daughters, Linda Teele and Irene Regina McNeil (Rudy); grandchildren, Dianna Braxton, Larry Tucker (Quinn), Latrice Tucker, Demario Tucker, Donnie Tucker, Chip Tucker, Chris Tucker, Dominique Tucker, Jason Tucker, Shameka Burns, Paris Harris, and Tiffany Harris; fourteen great-grandchildren; five sisters, Annie Tucker, Ella Jean Puryear, Ruby Williams, Dr. Carolyn Burwell (Fredrick) and Deborah Jones (Lloyd); two sons-in-law, Rudy McNeal and Jimmy Williams, and longtime friend, Wallace Scruggs.


Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Saturday from 10:00 A.M to 10:45 A.M.
