Mrs. Irene Carrington 88, of Upper Marlboro, MD and formerly of Red Oak, VA entered eternal rest Friday, March 20, 2009 at Larkin Chase Nursing Home, Bowie, MD. Mrs. Carrington was born on January 11, 1921 in Charlotte County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Abram and Elmira Walker. She received her education at Salem School, in Red Oak, Virginia and was a graduate of the historic Thyne Institute in Chase City, Virginia.She joined Salem Baptist Church at a very young age and continued to fellowship there until she relocated to Maryland to live with her son. While at Salem Baptist Church she was an active member of the Missionary Circle, The Household of Ruth, and various auxiliary committees. She was also a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Red Oak Chapter. She was a dedicated seamstress at the Chase City Garment Manufacturing Company. After retirement, she continued to sew; handcraft quilts and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Carrington was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Carrington Sr. two brothers, Abraham and Roosevelt Walker; sister, Nettie Mae Brooks; daughter, Rosa Green and grandson Tyrone Green. Cherishing her memories are three sons, Patrick Jr. (Claire) of Long Island, New York; Woodrow (Georgianna) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Roland of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; two loving nieces (raised as her own), Yvonne Brooks of Waterbury, CT and Floychell FLowers Pence (Jay) of Powhatan, VA eight grand- children and seventeen great grand children; one Aunt Minister Hattie Flowers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Carrington will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Prophet Harry L. Williams, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon.Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St. Chase City, VA.
