Mrs. Irene Bragg Parks, 86, of Chase City died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Parks was born in Lunenburg County on August 30, 1932 to the late Bernard H. and Annie Elizabeth Gee Bragg. She was a graduate of Lunenburg County Public Schools, and furthered her education and graduated from nursing school in Newark, NJ. She gained employment at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plain, NJ, and later at United Children’s Hospital of Newark, NJ as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed there until retiring in 1996. Mrs. Parks was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness and served as a pioneer, teaching the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom until her death. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Parks; daughter, Nadine Aleonq; a granddaughter, Anjelica Mosley, sisters, Lena Burton and Frances Ann, and brothers, Bernard and Ernest Bragg. Left to cherish her precious memories are a son, August Hatcher (Vivienne); two daughters, Karen Hatcher and Sandra Bacon (Alfred); step-son, Johnny Parks; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sister, Rosa Catherine Hale; adopted sister, Cora Thornton (Walter); sisters-in-law, Nannette Bragg and Susie Barksdale; brother-in-law, David Burton, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City with Brother David Burton officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City.
