Ms. Inez Bacon, 98, of Brooklyn, NY entered eternal rest on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Concord Nursing Home in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Bacon was born in Fort Mitchell, VA on July 4, 1923 to John and Mary Gayles Bacon. At an early age she was baptized and joined Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, and attended Charlotte County public schools. At the age of 18, she followed her dreams and migrated to Detroit, MI where she worked for the Chrysler Corporation during World War II. From Detroit she moved to Atlantic City, NJ where she lived for a short time. She finally settled in her beloved Brooklyn, NY where she lived until her death. Ms. Bacon worked for the City of New York for many years, retiring as a Human Resources Supervisor. After settling in Brooklyn, Ms. Bacon joined the Concord Baptist Church where she proudly served as Deaconess. She was a dedicated and active member also serving as a missionary, usher and on various committees. She was an avid volunteer in the church and with outside organizations. One of her favorite organizations was the Key Women’s Society which raised funds for young people and their educational advancement. Ms. Bacon enjoyed traveling, in fact it was her favorite pastime. She traveled extensively within the U.S. and throughout Europe and the Caribbean. Inez was a very sociable lady; she never met a stranger. In addition to her parents, Ms. Bacon was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Winn; three brothers, John, Edward and Austin Bacon, three nieces and three nephews. She is survived by one nephew, Caroyl Thomas Winn, Sr.; three nieces, Gwendolyn Bacon, Sandra Gobourne, Sandra Milhollen; great niece Angela Winn-Diggs; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside services for Ms. Inez Bacon will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2021 at Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. Fran Jackson officiating. Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. A mask is required for all viewings and services. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
