Mrs. Ida Jones Pettus Townes, 93, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA. Mrs. Townes was born in Mecklenburg County, VA September 11, 1917 to the late Walter and Carrie Jones.  Ida attended Mecklenburg County Schools, and joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age.  She served several churches in numerous capacities; Sunday school teacher, President of several choirs, Mother of the Church, just to name a few.  She continued to serve the Lord at Mt. Pleasant and also attended St. Taylor faithfully until her health began to fail.  Ida married Thomas E. Pettus and to this union 12 children were born.  Thomas died in 1954. Some years later she married William A. Townes.  Mrs. Townes was preceded in death by her husbands, four sons, her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter. Cherishing her memories are six daughters; Ruth L. Jones, Carrie Andrews (Blair), Emma Goldman (Lloyd) all of Richmond, VA, Clara Jenkins of Gwen Oaks, MD, PeNey Ampy (Timothy) of Atlanta, GA, and Marie Edwards of Clifton, VA; two sons, Walter Pettus of Boydton, VA, Robert Pettus (Derline) of Richmond, VA; 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Pettus Townes will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, with Rev. Lovely Moore, officiating.  Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
