Ida Mae Lawrence

Mrs. Ida Mae Lawrence 101, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at her residence.  Mrs. Lawrence was born in Mecklenburg County, VA May 28, 1907 to the late Matthew and Mamie Phillips Walker. Mrs. Lawrence attended elementary school in Mecklenburg County, VA and after graduating from St. Paul’s College of Lawrenceville, VA, she attended St. Phillip’s School of Nursing in Richmond, VA. She graduated with a degree in nursing and was recruited by The Visiting Nurse Service of New York City, New York; she integrated the staff. After working in New York at the Visiting Nurse Service, she applied and got accepted at New York University were she earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing and Physical Therapy.  Mrs. Lawrence career lead her to Harlem Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She ended her career at Queen’s Hospital in Queen’s New York, as Assistant Chief of Physical Therapists.  Cherishing her memory are nephews, James R. Hutcheson (Evella), Lewis Harvey (Pauline), Henry Walker (Patricia) and Ronald Walker; one sister-in-law, Margaret L. Walker; great nieces, Rhonda Henry (Arthur), Simone Olivieri (Moses); great nephew Jonathan Hutcheson; loving and faithful friends Barbara Gregory and Gladys Williams and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.  Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Lawrence will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, union Level, VA with Rev. Susan Grimm, officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park, South Hill, VA.  Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main Street, Chase City, VA.
