Mr. Howard Puryear (Tip) entered eternal rest Monday, March 31, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mr. Puryear was born in Charlotte County, VA March 4, 1932 to the late Henry and Ethel Gilliam Puryear. He attended Charlotte County Schools and was a retired farmer. Mr. Puryear attended First Baptist Church of Wylliesburg, VA. Mr. Puryear was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, five brothers and three sisters. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Mrs. Ruth P. Puryear of South Boston, VA; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Ragland (Marvin) and Cynthia Puryear all of South Boston, VA, and Miss Ruth Puryear of Orange, VA; two sons, Donnell Puryear (Janie) of Chase City, VA and Charles Puryear of South Boston, VA; two step-sons Roy Lee Pulliam (Lucille) and Herman Pulliam (Marjorie) all of Wilmington, DE; 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Gilliam of Pamplin, VA. Jerry Francis of Saxe, VA. and Bobby Gillian of Newark, NJ; two sisters Mrs. Martha Price of Brookneal, VA and Mrs. Mary Morton of Camden, NJ; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends including a devoted friend, Beaulah Wood. Funeral services for Mr. Howard Puryear will be conducted 12:00 Noon Friday, April 4, 2008 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. James E. Scott, officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service 1304 North Main Street, Chase City, VA.
