Mr. Hilton Lee Burton, 96, of Katy, TX and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Burton was born in Chase City, VA August 25, 1928 to the late George Irving Burton and Susie Smith Burton. He received his education at the historic Thyne Institute in Chase City and graduated in 1947. That summer, he relocated to New Jersey where he met and would later marry his future wife, Thelma Louise Taylor, and from that union two daughters were born. Mr. Burton was drafted into the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War. He had a successful career with the United States Postal Service for 28 years. In retirement, he and Thelma moved back to Chase City, and returned to his childhood church, Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Mr. Burton was a member of various organizations such as the VFW, NAACP, and Thyne Institute Memorial Inc. to name a few. He loved tending to his garden, tinkering with anything mechanical, traveling, and visiting family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Louise Taylor Burton; one grandson and seven siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughters, Hillary Spinks and Marilyn Burton-Jones; two grandchildren, Burton Scott Jones and Cecily Jones; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Teressa Coleman, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in the Burton Family Cemetery, Chase City. The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
