Mrs. Helen Smith Haskins, 79, affectionately known as “Drew or Dick”, entered eternal rest Friday, April 8, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. Mrs. Haskins was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on November 20, 1942 to the late Richard D. and Ruth Keene Smith. She was a graduate of West End High School in Clarksville, VA, Class of 1961. At an early age she joined Bluestone Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA where she served as a former Sunday School teacher, Youth Choir director, Missionary Circle treasurer, and was a member of the choir and hospitality committee. Mrs. Haskins was previously employed by Jonbil, Inc., and retired from Nipro Glass Americas in January 2017 with 16 years of service. Helen was an excellent cook who enjoyed spending time with her sisters and family, and in her spare time enjoyed sewing and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charlie Haskins, Jr., and one sister, Madeline Smith. She leaves to cherish her loving, gentle and caring spirit her loving children, Charlie Haskins, III (Mitzi) of Lynchburg, VA and Sonya Haskins (Ricky) of Clarksville, VA; granddaughter, Nykol Kheteary Haskins of Appomattox, VA; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Nykol Harriston of Appomattox, VA; seven sisters, Annie Tucker and Eva Gayles both of Chase City, VA, Irene Tucker of Richmond, VA, Ella Jean Puryear of Clarksville, VA, Ruby Williams of Raleigh, NC, Carolyn Burwell (Fredrick) of Franklin, VA and Deborah Jones (Lloyd) of Mechanicsville, VA; numerous devoted nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Mary Urquhart, Alma Nelson (Daniel McDonald) and Margaret Mosley (Willie), and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside services for Mrs. Helen Smith Haskins will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Bluestone Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson Sr. officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Mask are required to be worn for all viewings. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
