Hazel Powell Burton

Mrs. Hazel Powell Burton, 89, of Chase City, VA and formerly of Drakes Branch, VA entered eternal rest Monday, July 11, 2011 at Chase City Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Burton was born in Chase City, VA March 21, 1922 to the late Clarence and Minnie Tatum Powell. She was a graduate of the historic Thyne Institute and a member of The House of Prayer, Clarksville, VA. She was a member of the Usher board and was very active in various church activities until her health declined. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, James Charles Burton and five brothers. Cherishing her memories are one son, James D. Burton (Sula) of Richmond, VA; one grandson, James D. Burton Jr., Richmond, VA; one sister, Inez Rebecca Powell Staten of Buffalo Junction, VA; a devoted care giver, Brenda Burton of Chase City, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Powell Burton will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 15, 2011 at The House of Prayer, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Charles W. Davidson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Burton Family Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA. Viewing for Mrs. Burton will begin 10:00 A.M. Friday at The House of Prayer. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
