Hazel M. Crutchfield

Mrs. Hazel Mosley Crutchfield entered eternal rest Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Community Memorial Health Center in South Hill, VA.  Mrs. Crutchfield, the eldest of four children was born in Charlotte County, VA., on February 7, 1914 to the late Walter L. and Arvis M. Mosley.  Mrs. Crutchfield attended the public schools of Charlotte County and Thyne Institute in Chase City, VA.  She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church from the time of her baptism there in 1927 until her health began to fail  She served as “Mother of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church” from December 1977 until she terminated   her membership there to become a member of Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Crutchfield was also an active member of the Household of Ruth and the Order of the Eastern Star Lodges.  Mrs. Crutchfield was predeceased by her husband, James E. Crutchfield, two sons, Robert and   Walter B. Crutchfield; her parents Walter and Arvis Mosley; her stepfather, Oscar Smith; her brothers Wilkey and Rankin Mosley; and her sister Lucy Mosley Barrett.Cherishing her memory are her daughter Edith Crutchfield Simms (Alva), of Williamsburg, VA; her sons, Thomas E. Crutchfield (Bettye), of Boydton, VA; Charles A. Crutchfield (Doris) of Hamden, CT; and James Crutchfield of Shelbyville, TN.  Mrs. Crutchfield also leaves to mourn her loss her loving grandchildren great-grandchildren, and   great--great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Mosley Crutchfield will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Rev. Willie L. Carter Sr., officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
