Hayes Sr. Smith

Mr. Hayes Smith, Sr., 87, of Skipwith, VA entered eternal rest Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville, VA. Mr. Smith was born in Mecklenburg County, VA August 25, 1925 to the late Johnie and Annie Pettus Smith. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA. He served as the church treasurer for 50 plus years and also as the chairman of the Deacon Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille H. Smith; two sisters, Elnora Haskins and Mary Smith and three brothers, John, Arthur and Wallace Smith. Cherishing his memories are two sons, Hayes Smith, Jr. (Gale) of Glen Allen, VA and Chris Steven Smith of Newport News, VA; three grandchildren, Trimelle Proctor, Steven Smith and Emma Smith; one brother, Willis Smith of Skipwith, VA; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fuller, Dorothy Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Margaret Smith and Ethel Harris; one brother-in-law, Harvey Harris and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Hayes Smith Sr. will be conducted 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Bluestone Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until 7:00 P.M. and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
