Gilbert Charles Wysong

Mr. Gilbert Charles Wysong, 99, of Richmond, VA passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 surrounded by those he loved.

Mr. Wysong was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 12, 1925, son of the late Gilbert Buckner Wysong and Gladys (Jeffries) Wysong. He was a man of many talents. After graduating from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in Europe for 3 years during World War II in Logistics. Upon being honorably discharged, Mr. Wysong pursued various career opportunities including working for US Steel. He owned his own business of a trucking and fueling station, he was a dental hygienist, a skilled carpenter, and trained with the FAA to be an air traffic controller. Mr. Wysong served as a letter carrier for the US postal service for more than 30 years. Upon retirement at 55, he drove a school bus for the Penn Hills School District, Allegheny County, PA and after moving to Virginia he drove school buses for the Mecklenburg County School District in the Clarksville, VA community. Mr. Wysong served the Clarksville community by sitting on the planning commission board. He was spiritually nourished by Wharton Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the men's choir. He also was a member of Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Leslie James Wysong and Gregory Buckner Wysong; sisters, Grace Applewhite and Anna Ruth Dunmore; and a brother, Paul Wysong.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of 73 years, Eleanora L. Wysong; daughters, Cathy Renee Wysong and Karen Louise Wysong; one granddaughter, McKenzie Wysong Bentley; grandsons, Garrett F. Charity, Jr., Eric M. Charity, Maxwell Chavis Ross, and Andrew Wysong Ross; great-granddaughter, Carmen Charity, and a vast number of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Mr. Gilbert Charles Wysong will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Clarksville Community Center, Clarksville, VA. All are invited to gather and celebrate the 99 years of Gilbert C. Wysong, A Great Man Among Men.
