Gertrude Floreda Sands

Ms. Gertrude Floreda Thomas Sands, 76, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at her residence. Ms. Sands was born in Chase City, VA March 31, 1943 to the late Edward H. and Carrie Thomas. She was a 1961 graduate of West End High School in Skipwith, and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City. Ms. Sands was a retired Human Services Technician at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and shopping. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Edith Tucker and Clarence Thomas. Cherishing her memories are one daughter, Karan Sands of Fayetteville, NC; one grandson, Edward Sands of Fayetteville, NC; four brothers, Tyree Vincent Thomas and Ronald Thomas (Darlene) all of Linden, NJ, Alvin Thomas (Joyce) of Clarksville, VA and Alfred Thomas of Chase City, VA; one sister, Delores Miller of Chase City, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral service for Ms. Gertrude Sands will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
