Garland Nathaniel Bowers

Mr. Garland Nathaniel Bowers, 79, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, December 8, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Bowers was born in Boydton, VA on August 7, 1944, to the late Charlie Bowers and Clara Bowers McCloud. He relocated to New Jersey in the 1960’s to be close to his siblings. Upon relocating back to Boydton, he attended New St. Douglas Baptist Church. Garland was an avid music fan and conversed with everyone he met. “Mr. Garland”, as he was often called, was well loved, respected and has left us with beautiful memories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Bowers Jr., Roy Lee Bowers, Eddie Bowers, and Willie Bowers; and his sisters, Rosa Duncan, Martha Mosley, Mary Townes Smith, and Virginia Elam.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved sisters, Dorothy Bowers Grier (Andrew) of Moncks Corner, SC, Hattie Simmons of Jersey City, NJ, Rosa Branch (Bruce) of Richmond, VA and Charlestina Bailey of Woodbridge, VA; his devoted cousin-caretakers, Floyd and Pastor Shirley Williams, and a vast number of other loving relative and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Garland N. Bowers will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2023 at New St. Douglas Baptist Church, Boydton, VA with Evangelist Shirley G. Williams delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will begin Saturday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M.
