Freddie Elte Terry, Sr.

Mr. Freddie Elte Terry, Sr., 92, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Terry was born in Chase City, VA September 9, 1925 to the late Hammett and Mary Fannie Smith Terry. He was a graduate of the historic Thyne Institute, furthering his education at Virginia State University. He relocated to Jamacia, NY where he worked as an Importer for International Customs Services and Penson Company for well over thirty years. Upon retiring, he returned to Mecklenburg County and joined Lone Oak Baptist Church, Chase City, VA where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Senior Choir. Mr. Terry was a former bus driver for the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and a United States Navy Veteran. In addition to his parents, Mr. Terry was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-laws. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Viola Liggon Terry of Boydton, VA; two sons, Rev. Dr. Freddie E. Terry, Jr.(Teresa) of Lawrenceville, VA and Ralph Terry (Meiko) of Rocky Mount, NC; two daughters, Frances Staunton of Rocky Mount, NC and Karen Terry of Boydton, VA; nine grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Goode of Chase City, VA; one sister-in-law, five brothers-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Freddie E. Terry, Sr. will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Lone Oak Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Freddie E. Terry, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Silone Memorial Garden, Chase City, VA. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
