Floyd Burton, Sr.

Deacon Floyd Burton, Sr., 89, of Drakes Branch, VA exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his residence. Deacon Burton was born in Drakes Branch, VA Dec. 28, 1931 to the late Robert and Nancy Keene Gayles Burton. He attended the schools of Charlotte County, VA and was a member of Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Deacon Burton was previously employed by Giant Foods. He was also a Deacon and the Superintendent of Sunday School for St Mark Baptist Church in Washington DC for many years before moving back to Virginia. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, going to church and Bible study. In addition to his parents, Deacon Burton was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Burton; siblings, Harry Burton, Willetta Hamilton, Samuel Burton, Susie Cuffee, James Burton, Nathaniel Burton, Ruth Freeland, Bessie Oliver, Alice Burton and his twin sibling. Left to cherish his precious memories are daughters, Charlene Juhans of Capitol Heights, MD and Sylvia Burton of Adelphi, MD; sons, Floyd Edward Burton, Jr. of Drakes Branch, VA and Gregory Lewis Burton of Capitol Heights, MD; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Roberta Mitchell of Washington, DC and Maggie Tate of Arizona; brothers, David Burton and Daniel Burton both of Drakes Branch, VA and Albert Burton of Chase City, VA. brother-in-law, Walter Hamilton, sisters-in-law, Anne Burton, Judy Burton and Eunice Burton and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Farm house 916 Burton Lane, Drakes Branch VA 23937. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
