Evelyn Deloris Hatcher

Mrs. Evelyn Deloris Harper Hatcher, 62, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Hatcher was born Aug 12, 1947 in Chase City Virginia, daughter of the late Harvey and Clara Watkins Harper Thomas.  At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ and joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Chase City where she served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board.  The spiritual guidance she received was maintained throughout her life.  Deloris met and later married Winthy Hatcher Jr. on January 5, 1963 and to their union, two sons were born, Harvey Leon and Stephen Vincent Hatcher.  She was employed at Jonbil Manufacturers for a number of years before she began work as a teacher’s aide at the Chase City Elementary School.  Deloris was an active member and supporter of the Cub Scouts as well as a supporter of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department.  She was well known through out Chase City and the surrounding areas. Cherishing her memories are her devoted and loving husband, Winthy Jr.; two sons, Harvey Leon of Clarksville, VA and Stephen Vincent of Chase City; VA; one sister, Joyce Lee and husband, Roger L. Bacon of Randallstown Maryland; one brother,  Terry D. Harper and wife, Linda of Rock Island, Illinois;  four  grandchildren, Adrianna, Brittany, Donte, and Sean; one great grandchild, Ja’Kiah Walker;  a great nephew,  Marques Fowlkes,  who was like a son to her; two aunts,  Naomi Johnson  and Lettie Hall;  one sister- in- law, Earlene H. and husband Lindell Palmer of South Hill, VA; three brothers- in- law, Robert Lee and wife Elsie, Melvin Hatcher and wife, Brenda,  Marvin Hatcher “Poochie” and wife Pamela  all of Chase City, Virginia; very devoted friends, Cora Tucker,  Charles and Deborah Magann,  Joe Keeton, Marty Lewis, and Button Cox all of Chase City, Virginia;  one adopted son, Tymane Keene; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.   Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Deloris Harper Hatcher will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee, delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
