Eva Smith Gayles

Mrs. Eva Smith Gayles, 86, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, November 3, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Gayles was born in Charlotte County, VA on August 31, 1937 to the late Richard D. and Ruth Keene Smith. She attended the historic Thyne Institute in Chase City and was a lifetime member of Bluestone Baptist Church in Skipwith where she served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, and was head of the kitchen committee. Mrs. Gayles retired from Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA with 20 plus years of service. She later found her calling as a highly skilled self-employed upholster, and enjoyed doing two of the things she loved the most, sewing and cooking. She also loved spending time with her family, gardening, collecting antiques and watching “Family Feud”.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gayles was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Junior Gayles; a son, Richard E. Gayles; and two sisters, Madeline Smith and Helen S. Haskins.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory one son, Ronnie M. Gayles (Karen) of Chase City, VA; five grandchildren, a granddaughter in-love, and seven great-grandchildren; six sisters, Annie Tucker of Chase City, VA, her twin, Irene Tucker of Richmond, VA, Ella Jean Puryear of Clarksville, VA, Ruby Williams of Raleigh, NC; Dr. Carolyn Burwell (Fredrick) of Franklin, VA and Deborah Jones (Lloyd) of Mechanicsville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Dailey and Margie Gayles, a host of loving nieces and nephews, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Smith Gayles will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2023 at Bluestone Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
