Eugene A. Hayes

Mr. Eugene A. Hayes, 69, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, October 16, 2017 at VCU Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. Mr. Hayes, affectionately known as “Gene”, was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on August 26, 1948 to Albertha Wood Hayes and the late James A. Hayes. He was a 1968 graduate of West End High School, Skipwith, VA, and a member of Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. Mr. Hayes joined the US Army, serving three years as a medic. He later joined the US Army Reserve, and transitioned to the VA Army National Guard, retiring as a medic. He also attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, earning a HVAC Degree. Mr. Hayes was formerly employed by the American Tobacco Company and retired from Phillip Morris, USA in 2001 as a machinist. In addition to his father, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by one sister, Lorina H. Baskerville, and two brothers, Nelson L. and Lanza Hayes. Cherishing his memories are one daughter, Alexandra Hayes Stewart (Abdalla Aziz) of Richmond, VA; his mother, Albertha Wood Hayes of Chase City, VA; four sisters, Carolyn H. Liggon, Sharon H. Bouldin and Velma H. Crowder (Warren) all of Chase City, VA and Coretta H. Atkins (Darnell) of Norfolk, VA; three brothers, Stanley O. Hayes (Janice) and Henry D. Hayes (Janie) all of Chase City, VA and Donald M. Hayes (Joyce) of Colonial Heights, VA; a devoted friend, Shirley Hardy, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Eugene A. Hayes will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Elder Kenyatta Evans, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
