Esther Walker Saunders

Mrs. Esther Walker Saunders, 84, of South Hill, VA entered eternal rest Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at W.S. Hundley Extended Care, South Hill, VA. Mrs. Saunders was born in Chase City, VA January 18, 1929 to the late Clifford Neal and Ruth Surratt and was raised by her step-father Earl Walker. She attended historic Thyne Institute graduating in 1947. She moved to East Orange, NJ and worshipped at Peaceful Zion Baptist Church, after returning to Virginia she reunited with Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. Cherishing her memories are her husband, James, daughter, Sylvia Ann of South Hill, VA; two sons, David –Scott of Jersey City, NJ and James Jr. (Donna) of Easton, PA; three sisters, Amy W. Butler of Richmond, VA, Ida Walker of Baltimore, MD and Mary W. Wright of Fort Washington, MD; six nieces, two nephews and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Melvin J. Palmer delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. Services 2:00 P.M.
