Ernest W. Powell

Mr. Ernest Witt Powell, 70, of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest Friday, October 16, 2009 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA.   Mr. Powell was born in Mecklenburg County, VA July 21, 1939; the youngest of eleven children born to the late Thomas Powell and Hattie Harris Powell. He attended East End High School, and was a retiree of Burlington Industries.      In addition to his parents Mr. Powell was preceded in death by five sisters, Elizabeth Oliver, Ida Crute, Rosa Green, Opie Gregory and Ethel Powell and one brother, Garland Powell. He was previously married to Virginia A. Powell, this union was blessed with five children. On April 18, 1992 he united in holy matrimony to Rosa C. Edmond. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Rosa E. Powell of Boydton, VA; two sons, Ernest G. Powell of Chase City, VA and Edwin Powell (Elizabeth) of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Earnadette Farrar (Wayne) of Chase City, VA, Euretha Powell of Oxon Hill, MD and Earther Tucker (Irven) of Washington, D.C.; three step-children, Charlie Edmond, Jr., Margaret Howard (Gregory) and Carol Brown (Ksaan) all of Richmond, VA; ten grandchildren, three sisters, Mary Green, Chase City, VA, Leoria Boyd of Newark, NJ, and Lucy Gregory (James) of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Edward Powell (Annella) of Chase City, VA; two brothers-in-law, Marshall Crutchfield Sr. and William Crutchfield, Sr. (Stephannie); two devoted friends, Ace Douglas and Calvin Oliver and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.    Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Witt Powell will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Lone Oak Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Waverly Brown Sr. officiating and Rev. Dr. Gregory M. Howard delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
