Ernest Henry Oliver

Mr. Ernest Henry Oliver 49, of Portsmouth, VA entered eternal rest Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Chesapeake General Hospital, Chesapeake, VA. Mr. Oliver was born in Mecklenburg County, VA February 25, 1965 to the late Robert Lee and Ella Mae Coleman. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA until moving to Philadelphia, PA in 1982. He was a 1985 graduate of Simon Gratz High. Upon graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1985. He served 20 years in the Navy and retired in July 2005 with full honors. Cherishing his memories is his wife of 27 years, Tammy Pettus Oliver of Portsmouth, VA; children, Ebony Ciara Oliver, Eric Anthony Oliver, and Macon Davis of Portsmouth, VA,; Starsheemaah Bryant of Philadelphia, PA; two grandchildren, Makayla Sandoz and Leah Wright; one brother, Willie James Oliver (Mattie) of Chase City, VA; three sisters, his twin sister, Ernestine Oliver of Wilkes-Barre, PA Thelma Marable (Bobby) and Edith Clark all of Chase City, VA; mother-in-law, Betty Oliver of Chase City, VA, five sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 Noon Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 7, at Greenlawn Memorial Garden, Chesapeake, VA. Public viewings will be Monday August 4, from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Portsmouth, VA. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Portsmouth, VA.
