Mrs. Emma S. Coleman Gayles, 96, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Friday, July 29, 2016 at the residence of her daughter in South Hill, VA. Mrs. Gayles was born in Baskerville, VA October 15, 1919 to the late George and Hattie Watson Coleman. She received her education in the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was a life long member of Union Hill RZUA Church, Baskerville, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Gayles; four sisters, Mary, Mattie, Grace and Corene; three brothers, John, Matthew and Willie and a foster daughter, Sarah Frances. Cherishing her memories are two children, Mary J. Winckler of South Hill, VA and Barbara Speede (Harold) of Chase City, VA; seven grandchildren;nine great-grandchildren; seven great- great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley of South Hill, VA and James of Stroudsburg, PA; one sister, Daisy Baskerville of Keysville, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Emma S. Coleman Gayles will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Roy Crews and Rev. Dr. Freddie L. Terry, Jr. conducting the service. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for family and friends Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
