Mrs. Elnora Smithson, 77, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Heritage Hall Nursing Facility, Virginia Beach, VA. Mrs. Smithson was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on February 13, 1940 to the late Dabney and Annie M. Garner Puryear. She attended the historic Thyne Institute and was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA. Mrs. Smithson was formerly employed by Jonbil, Inc. as a seamstress and as a receptionist at Giles-Harris Funeral Home. She was a former member of the Chase City Rescue Squad Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smithson was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Walter Smithson and one brother, Earnest Eugene Puryear. Cherishing her memories are her son, William Keith Smithson of Elk Grove, CA, daughter, Debra Juanita Puryear Small of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clearance E. Puryear of Chase City, VA and Major L. Puryear of Newport News, VA; three sisters, Lucy P. Williams of Cambridge, MA, Geraldine Henderson of Alexandria, VA and Lelia Kelly of Richmond, VA, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Elnora Smithson will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Bluestone Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Lawrence T. Wilkerson, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
