Mrs. Edna L. Allen, 77, of Washington, DC and formerly of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Providence Hospital, Washington, DC. Mrs. Allen was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on June 10, 1939 to Inez Virginia Easley Yancey the late Thomas E. Yancey. At an early age, she joined St. Mark Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA and was a 1960 graduate of West End High School, Skipwith, VA. Upon graduation, she relocated to Washington, DC she pursued a career in food services, retiring from Marriot, Inc. after 25 years of service. In addition to her father, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Giles Allen; two brothers, Thomas E. Yancey, Jr. and Marshall Yancey and a dedicated companion of 32 years, Calvin Blyther. Cherishing her memories are her mother, Inez V. Yancey of Buffalo Junction, VA; four brothers, Lawrence Yancey (Julia) of Clarksville, VA, Charles Yancey (Clara) of Fort Washington, MD, Preston Yancey (Mary) of South Boston, VA and Robert Lee Yancey (LaTonda) of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Mary G. Gravitt and Dora Roberts of Washington, D.C.; devoted caregiver and great-niece, Danisha Gravitt of Washington, DC and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Edna L. Allen will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 24, 2017 at St. Mark Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Dr. David A. Taylor delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will begin Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 AM at St. Mark Baptist Church. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
