Dr. Linda Delois Salley, 62 of CHesterfield, VA and formerly of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, June 26, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center, Midlothian, VA. Dr. Salley was born on April 12, 1949 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Ollie L. and Endia Salley. As a youth, she attended Concord Baptist Church with her family. She received her primary education at Thyne Institute in Chase City and graduated from West End High School (Skipwith, Virginia). Linda graduated from St. Paul’s College (Lawrenceville, Virginia) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. Dedicated to furthering her education, she also earned a Master of Science degree (1988) from Bowie State University (Maryland), as well as Doctorate of Education (2005) from the University of Maryland (College Park). Linda was an accomplished lifelong educator. She began her teaching career with Charles County (Maryland) Public Schools (CCPS) in 1971. During her 35 year tenure with the School District, Linda taught middle school English, advancing to serve as a vice principal of Westlake High School. After spending her entire adult life living in Prince George’s County, Maryland, she retired from CCPS in 2006 and returned to Virginia, making her home in Chesterfield. Linda found great joy in her “second career” with Henrico County Public Schools working with students with autism. Cherishing her memories are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie and Endia Salley of Chase City, VA; three sisters, Dean O. Salley and Christine (Salley) Hayes, both of Chase City and Celestine Brooks (Leroy) of Red Oak, VA; three nieces, Tonya Salley-Goodwin (Joseph) and Michelle Yancey, both of Richmond, VA and Siobhan (Yancey) Richardson (Tarron) of DeSoto, TX; one nephew, Juwan Brooks of Red Oak, VA; one great niece, Hailey Fields and one great nephew, Peyton Richardson and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Dr. Linda Delois Salley will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
