Dr. Alice Adriana Mckinney

Dr. Alice Adriana McKinney, 81, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Chase City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chase City, VA. Dr. McKinney was born in Brooklyn, NY October 2, 1933 to the late Alaska and Susan Higgs McKinney.  She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School of Brooklyn, NY and relocated to California in the 1970’s. While there,  she  received her Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Chemical Dependency  and her Master’s Degree in Human Behavior from National University, San Diego, CA.  She later obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy in Human Behavior from Newport University, Newport Beach, CA. Dr. McKinney retired from Pacific Bell, now AT&T, in San Diego, CA.  After retirement, she worked as a substance-abuse counselor. While in San Diego, Dr. McKinney was an avid church goer; and upon returning to Virginia in 2007 she joined Concord Baptist Church, where we was President of Pastoral Care and a member of the Health and Wellness Ministry and the mass choir. She was a United States Army Veteran. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Estella McKinney Carter. Cherishing her memories are five nephews, Tyrone C. Johnson of El Cajon, CA, Paul, Alphonzo, Michael and Anthony McKinney; two nieces, Kimberly and Peggy McKinney,  her Concord Baptist Church family and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral Services for Dr. Alice Adriana McKinney will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley, III, officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
