Deacon Tony Leroy Bass, Sr.

Deacon Tony Leroy Bass, Sr., 72, of Chase City, VA entered into eternal rest on Friday June 14, 2024 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA.

Deacon Bass was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on December 23, 1951 to the late Matthew, Sr. and Estelle Beasley Bass. He attended Holly Rock School, Skipwith, VA and was a member of New Light Baptist Church in Skipwith where he served as a Deacon. Deacon Bass was previously employed by Burlington Industries for 35 years. He also drove for KR Snead Trucking of Scottsburg for 10 years, and was employed as a school bus driver for Mecklenburg County Public Schools until his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roderick Bass, Sr.; a grandson, Damarion Campbell; one brother, David Bass; four sisters, Linette Spencer, Frances Watson and two at birth.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Yvonne Bass of Drakes Branch, VA; two children, Tony Bass, Jr. of Richmond, VA and Amanda Bass (Shaun) of Brodnax, VA; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three brothers; Frank Bass of Washington DC, Matthew Bass, Jr. (Francine) of Jacksonville, NC and Calvin Bass (Margaret) of Chesterfield, VA; three sisters, Gail Bass of Union Level, VA, Mildred Bass (Bobby) and Deborah Bass (Calvin) all of Richmond, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M Saturday June 22, 2024 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris officiating. Burial will follow in New Light Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.
