Deacon Gus Liggon, Jr., 90, of Chesterfield, VA and formerly of Chase City entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital, Midlothian, VA. Deacon Liggon was born September 23, 1929 in Amelia County, VA to the late Gus, Sr. and Amy Gugertha Carter Liggon; he was the second of nine children born to this union. He received his education in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and at an early age joined Silone Baptist Church in Chase City, VA. He was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church; while there he was ordained as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. He later moved his membership to St. Paul Church and Morning Star Full Gospel Assembly where he also served as a Deacon, and was a chairperson on the Deacon Board. Deacon Liggon was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was employed by the Town of Chase City for many years until retirement. He had many hobbies such as gardening, attending church and family gatherings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn E. Liggon; daughter, Sheilda Liggon Dixon; sister, Ida L. Pulliam, and brothers, Alfred Liggon and Fielder Liggon, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Amy Dailey (Wade); sons, Gus Liggon, III (India) and Stephen Liggon, Sr. (Carolyn); stepdaughter, Charlene Marilla (Minnard); stepson, Reggie “Kenny” Vines; seven grandchildren, Keenan, Gus IV, Kyle, Patrice, Karla, Achiaia (Bree), and Stephen Jr.; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Dr. Garland B. Liggon, Sr., Mallom Liggon, Sr. (Marva), and William Liggon, Sr. (Kathy); two sisters, Bessie Boyd and Viola Terry; two sisters-in-law, Joan Liggon and Theresa Angevin, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A graveside service for Deacon Gus Liggon, Jr. will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Garland B. Liggon, Sr. officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Due to Covid-19, mask will be required to attend the service, and please practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
