Deacon Edward Lee Fowlkes, 88, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA.


Deacon Fowlkes was born in Lunenburg County, VA on March 5, 1934 to the late Robert and Lula T. Fowlkes. He attended the public schools of Lunenburg County, and was a member of New Rehoboth Baptist Church in Keysville, VA. Deacon Fowlkes was formerly employed by Burlington Industries in Clarksville, and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a hard worker who loved to talk and help others.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Fowlkes, and a sister, Mary Sue Whitehead.


He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Melba Spain Fowlkes of Chase City, VA; stepson, Omar S. Lewis (Katrina) of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Marques and Damion Fowlkes; two step-grandchildren, Braze and Nadia Lewis, two great-grandchildren, Anthony Washington and Elijah Fowlkes, six sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.


Funeral services for Deacon Edward Lee Fowlkes will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. John Craighead officiating. Burial will follow in New Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville, VA. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
