Deacon Claude Franklin Mangum, 75, of Vernon Hill, VA formerly of Boydton, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at VCU Health CMH Hundley Center, South Hill, VA. Deacon Mangum was born in Boydton, VA on May 3, 1945, the seventh and youngest child, to the late Warry Wayne and Virginia King Mangum. He received his early education in the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA before relocating to New Jersey where he attended East Orange Public Schools. Deacon Mangum was a former employee of National Shoe Company and Triangle Tools in New Jersey. Upon returning to Virginia, he gained employment with Daystrom Furniture and Lasco Bath, Inc. for numerous years before retiring. He was a member of Jerusalem Temple United Holy Church in Boydton, VA where he served as a Deacon. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Jerome, Clarence, Charles and Raymond. Cherishing his precious memories are his sister, Marion Virginia Evans (Nathaniel) of Boydton, VA; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Mangum of New Jersey, a host of nieces, and nephews, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A public viewing for Deacon Claude Franklin Mangum will be held on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. A private viewing for family only will be held from 5:00 until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
