Mr. David Lee Martin, 66, of East Orange, NJ and formerly of Chase City, VA transitioned from this earthly home on September 16, 2022, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ.


Mr. Martin, affectionately known as “Juicy”, was born in Chase City, VA on March 31, 1956 to the late John Martin, Jr. and Geraldine Coates Martin. He received his education from the Mecklenburg County, VA Public Schools before entering the U. S. Army, where he served two years of duty. Mr. Martin reunited with and married the love of his life, Phyllis Ardell Clements in 1991. While living in New Jersey, he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service until retirement.


Mr. Martin attended Park Avenue Christian Church Disciples of Christ for many years and became a member in 2019 under the leadership of Pastor Harriett Wallace. He was Vice President of the Christian Men’s Fellowship. He attended faithfully until his health declined. Mr. Martin loved family, and enjoyed returning to Chase City for visits as often as possible. Anyone who knew him was aware he loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers. He was a fan for life. He also loved vintage automobiles, collecting baseball cards and buying plants for landscaping as well as inside the home.


In addition to his parents, stepmother and grandparents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one daughter, Teshia L. Martin; one granddaughter, Alicia Martin, and one brother, Sylvester Martin.


He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Phyllis Clements Martin of East Orange, NJ; two sons: Andre Clements (Maria) of East Orange, NJ and Abdul J. Martin of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren: Adrianna “NuNu” Clements, Armarion Martin, Arishay Martin, Armontae Martin, Arkell Martin, and Ke’Monta Smith; one brother: John M. Martin; two sisters: Wanda D. Martin and Brenda G. Coleman; one step-sister: Pamela Washington (Willie); three step-brothers: Rayford Doggett, Jr., Marc Doggett, and Stacye Doggett; one brother-in-law: Albert Middleton; two sisters-in-law: Carol Millender and Patricia Adams; four aunts: Bessie M. Hector, Isabella Bacon, Annie Russell and Carolyn Martin; two uncles: Troy Ruff (Vickie) and Charlie E. Bacon, his church family, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.


Funeral services with military honors for Mr. David Lee Martin will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Reverend Linda B. Goode, officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
