David Jr. Burton

Mr. David Burton, Jr. 59 of Richmond, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, July 28, 2013 at McGuire Veteran Admin Hospital, Richmond, VA. Mr. Burton was born in Newark, NJ April 15, 1954 to David Burton Sr. and the late Lena Mae Bragg Burton. He attended the Newark City Schools and Lunenburg County Public Schools. He continued his education at Southside Virginia Community College, Keysville, VA. He was a 27 year employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Richmond, VA retiring in 2010. Mr. Burton was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Chase City, VA, and a veteran of the United States Army. A huge sports fan, David’s favorite basketball and football teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Francisco 49ers.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his sister, Rhoda Crawley Cherishing his memories are his wife, Joan A. Burton of Richmond, VA; five children, David Burton, III (Jasmine) and Frazier Burton all of Irvington, NJ; Raijon Laviel Burton (Chelsey), DaVon Lena Burton and Teisha Keene all of Richmond, VA; twelve grandchildren; his father, David Burton, Sr. (Charlotte) of Drakes Branch, VA; six brothers, Ronald Burton (Alice) of Chase City, VA, Timothy Burton (Alfreda) of Lacrosse, VA, Andre Burton of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeffrey Oakley (Tina) of Newark, NJ, Jermaine Burton (Matresha)  and Shawn Burton all of Durham, NC; mother-in-law, Lillian Keene of Chase City, VA; two sisters-in-law, Diane Bullock (Edward) of Skipwith, VA and Cynthia Keene of Petersburg, VA; one brother-in-law, Mike Keene of Chase City, VA; Godmother, Hattie Davis of Chase City, VA; devoted friends, The Brown and Crump Families, his beloved dog, King and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. David Burton, Jr. will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Berean Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris, officiating with Minister Omar Shaw, Assisting. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. Services 2:00 P.M.
