Cullen Lee Bynum, Jr.

Mr. Cullen Lee Bynum Jr., 71, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, June 6, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Bynum was born in Snow Hill, NC on March 26, 1945 to the late Cullen Sr. and Helen Bynum. Cullen was formerly employed with The New York City Department of Corrections, retiring after 20 years at Rikers Island. After his retirement, Cullen developed many skills in areas that he loved. He earned a certificate in Gunology and became a gunsmith to many of the hunters in the Chase City community. He also acquired the skill of wine making, he would make wines from all types of fruits including all varieties of grapes, plums, blueberries and he would often give family and friends bottles of his finished product. Cherishing his memories are his wife of 24 years, Katherine Brown Bynum of Chase City, VA; five children, Vernon, Sharon, Pamela, Cullen III and Kyla; one step-daughter, Bridgette; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Bynum of Snow Hill, NC; one brother, Bobby Bynum of South Carolina and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial cookout for Mr. Cullen Lee Bynum, Jr. will be held in his memory at his residence on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. until. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
